Joe is married to Kelly, a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher at Gloria Dei.  They have two children: Jason, a sophomore at Christopher Newport University; and Sara, a 7th grader at Grafton Middle School.  Joe and Kelly came to Gloria Dei in 1988 and were re-assigned in 1991.  They returned “home” in 1998 and “retired” in Hampton Roads.  Joe is still working at Langley as a defense contractor for EDS Corporation.  Joe has enjoyed singing in the choir and serving as a member of the Church Council since 2000.  He is also a Facilitator for the New Life Discipleship Group.  Most recently, he and Kelly served as two of four leaders for the Dreams and Visions Capital Funding Campaign
 
Larry is married to Virginia (Ginny) Tonneson, a math teacher at Tabb Middle School.  They have two children; Matthew a 1st Lieutenant stationed at Travis AFB, CA and Jennifer, conducting medical research at Dartmouth College.  Larry and Ginny have had a long relationship with Gloria Dei joining the church in 1984.  After several military assignments they returned to Gloria Dei a second time in 1995.  Larry’s job as a defense contractor returned them again to Gloria Dei in January 2004.   Larry served his first year on the Gloria Dei Church Council in 2005.




 
Dale has been a member of Gloria Dei since 1984.  Dale is a graduate of the Citadel, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Math and a commission in the United States Air Force.  After 26 years of service, Dale retired in Hampton.  He currently works for Lockheed Martin Corporation.  Dale’s son, Jason; wife, Jessica; and two grandchildren, Jason and Joshua; are also members of Gloria Dei. Dale has served on the Parish Council as a member, Vice President, and President.  He participates in the men’s Tuesday breakfast Bible Study, and routinely helps with the annual Fish Fry and other church activities



 
Vivian has been a member of Gloria Dei since 1990.  Her father was a Lutheran pastor, as was her grandfather and great-grandfather.  She has two children:  Stephanie, who is attending Penn State Medical College; and Nicholas, who is attending the Air Force Academy.  Currently, Vivian is a Fine Arts Resource Teacher Specialist for Hampton City Schools.  Here at Gloria Dei, she is currently teaching a Sunday School class, “Art, Artists and Faith.”  She has previously served as a junior and senior high youth leader, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Church Council member, and on several capital funding committees.

Linda moved to the area in 1997 and has been a member of Gloria Dei since 1998.  She has multiple graduate degrees in Music and Education.  Linda has served multiple tours in the Air Force both in the U.S. and overseas.  As an educator, she has taught piano and various elementary school grades. Currently, she teaches science at Jefferson Davis Middle School.  Here at Gloria Dei, Linda has been singing with the senior choir since 1999, and enjoys being a lay reader.













 

Kara has been part of the Gloria Dei community since moving to the Hampton area with her family in 1984.  She attended Gloria Dei Lutheran School from preschool thru fifth grade, and became a confirmed member of the church in 1993.  Kara received her bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech in 2002 and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from The Medical College of Virginia (VCU) in 2005.  After graduation, she accepted a position with Tidewater Physical Therapy at their Hampton office.  Kara and her husband, Ray, were married at Gloria Dei in 2005 and now enjoy living in Newport News.  Ray is an operator with Dominion Virginia Power at their Chesapeake facility.  Kara and Ray are active members of the New Life Discipleship Group, and Kara is working on the planning of health services for our emerging Life Center.


 

 
Ross and his wife Kim have been associated with Gloria Dei since initially joining in 1985. After several assignments with the Army, they returned in 1997.  Ross retired from the Army in 2000 and is currently a civil servant at Fort Monroe.  Kim works as a part-time secretary in the Church Pastoral Leadership Center.  Ross and Kim have one daughter, Lara, a recent graduate of James Madison University.  Ross has participated at Gloria Dei as a Discipleship group member and facilitator, Lay Reader, Usher, and on several call committees and special projects.  Ross has been on Church Council since 2004.

 

 





 

Ann serves the Parish Council as a non-voting member and recorder.  She has served in this position for over 15 years.  She has been a member of Gloria Dei since 1985 and is married to Jerry, a nursing home resident.  Ann has three children and a small assortment of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She retired from civil service as a management assistant at Langley AFB in 1992 and has served as Gloria Dei’s church secretary since 1995.  Ann sings in the Senior Choir, is a member of Daybreakers Bible study, the Diaconate prayer team, and the Gloria Dei Red Hatters.  She sews quilts and cot sheets for Gloria Dei Lutheran School.  Ann has been a member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 30 years and has received its highest honors on the Peninsula.  Her hobbies are reading and needlework.
